Students of Stars College Secondary School in Al-Abbasiya – Tyre planted a cedar tree in the public garden of Tyre city, “as a confirmation of the symbolic attachment to the land and the steadfastness of the people.”
The environmental activity was attended by the Mayor of Tyre, represented by his deputy Salah Sabraoui, the school’s principal Dr. Hassan Tajeddine, the head of the protocol committee at the Tyre Municipality Walid Al-Tawil, the school’s director Najeeb Habballah, and environmental associations.
After the national anthem, Sabraoui delivered a speech in which he thanked “the school’s administration and its students for their activities, especially the idea of planting cedar trees, which is a symbol of patriotism and environmental preservation, and what it represents for citizens.”
As for Dr. Tajeddine, he expressed gratitude to the municipality for its participation with the students in planting the cedar tree in the public garden of Tyre, in the city of Imam Musa al-Sadr, for what it symbolizes to citizens and the nation, especially the Lebanese flag, which features the cedar tree at its center. “We cling to this symbol,” he said, “affirming our attachment to the land and the resilience of the Lebanese people on their land despite the pain and suffering.”
He also pointed out that the students would carry out environmental activities, including visits to forested areas that were damaged in the war, where they will replant trees, including cedar trees.
It is worth mentioning that the public garden of Tyre had been subjected to Israeli attacks.
